I have been going back and forth with the idea of starting a blog or journal for a while now. I cant pretend some big life milestone has finally prompted me to take the leap, rather a lot of messages coming to me through starsign horoscopes, meditations, card readings, and my general gut instinct (I’ll expandd on that later).
The first two months of 2018 has seen big changes for me personally, and in relation to work, my goals for the year, and my approach to achieving them. I feel like my initial fear of ‘putting myself out into the world’ has been overcome by curiosity to see what happens when I do…
So here goes!
For the last few years now I have been on a journey. Relearning who I am, and who I want to be. What fills my soul and makes my heart sing.
Being diagnosed with a chronic illness more or less knocks you off your feet. I felt that I’d lost my whole identity because I could no longer do the things I loved and what made me ‘me’. When you only have a select amount of energy you have to be VERY specific about what you choose to spend your time on.
I won’t say that journey has been easy, or by any means sunshine and rainbows, but the things I have been through, learnt, and learned about myself… Well, I can’t exactly say it makes having this illness worth it, but I can say without a doubt I’m a better person now than I was four years ago, and I am so grateful for where I am now!
This life is all about the journey, and nothing worth learning every comes out of taking the easy path. The best truths are on the other side of the challenges we face.
After the initial shock of a diagnosis and relief at putting a name to what I was going through. I quickly realised a diagnosis does not equal a cure. As anyone suffering with any form of chronic illness or chronic pain will know, there is no go-to cure when little is understood about the causes of what you have. This pretty much leaves patients to work things out on their own.
But something in me refused to give in and I clung to the mindset of ‘this thing will not control me or my life, I will not let it win!‘ and that was where my learning journey began…
I have always been inclined towards healthy eating and keeping fit, but from that point forward I decided to learn as much as I could about natural or alternative remedies and healing, and only eat what nourished me. There is so much pollution, chemicals and technological noise around us we often forget to treat our bodies with the respect they deserve. It’s far too easy to take the ‘quick fix’ drug prescribed by a Dr or eat the processed ready made foods and not think about what we put in our bodies. But that old addage ‘you are what you eat’ is more than true, and I truely believe healing starts from within. And let me tell you, when you feel awful every day, you want to only be around and do what makes you feel better..
(I won’t lie, i wasn’t always this conscientious, I’ve always had a major sweet tooth AND I was the stereotypical party girl in my twenties. I know it wasn’t healthy, or clever. And I’m pretty sure it’s one of the contributing factors to where I am now. But life would be easy with hindsight, right!)
What followed was a lot of trial and error. I don’t need to share all that with you, and I dont want to focus on the lows or the bad days.
But I do intend to share all the thing I have found along the way to help and heal and anything else I hope might be useful, which I hope you enjoy reading.
This is the beginning of my journey and I hope you stick around for the ride!
