    The Spring Eqinox & Supermoon | 2019

Happy Spring Equinox to you! Today marks the vernal equinox, which occurs at exactly 21:58 GMT this evening. The day when day and night are almost equal in length. In the Northern hemisphere this marks the first day of Spring, and the journey back towards the sun. From now until midsummer the days will be longer and lighter, the temperature will (hopefully) get hotter, and the land will turn green as things begin to grow and flourish again. In the Southern Hemisphere it will of course be the opposite, as they move towards the darker winter months – another lovely example of the beautiful balance in nature. Today also marks…

How being Introvert or Extrovert affects your self-care

The terms ‘introvert’ and ‘extrovert’ are banded around quite a bit, you may even have taken a quiz to work out which you are, or decided on your own to which camp you belong. But do you really know what the differences between the two are? and what the two terms really mean? Although certain personality traits can be the result of being an introvert or extrovert, they are not in fact the true definition. The true difference between an introverted and an extroverted personality lies in your brain. How it processes dopamine and other chemicals released in the brain during certain activities, and how tolerant your brain is to…

    Eating seasonally

In my last post I talked about living more in tune with the seasons (if you haven’t yet you can read it here). As part of this I feel that eating seasonally or eating for the seasons goes hand in hand with listening to your body and working with nature. What is eating seasonally? What does eating seasonally mean? Eating seasonally is choosing fruits and vegetables that are naturally growing at certain times of year. Just because something is being sold at your local supermarket does not mean that it would naturally be growing at that time of year. We are living in a time of convenience and consumerism where…

    Living with the seasons

I have felt pretty pleased with myself the last couple of years on how I’ve changed my attitude towards winter and the darker months. I used to dread them, I’d go as far as to say ‘hate them with a passion’, but this left me wishing away huge chunks of time (and my life) pining for Spring, daylight and warmer days. Instead of waking up and dreading the dark I started to appreciate waking up to the stars, the moon, running in the dark and feeling like the only person in the world, getting to see those dramatic winter sunrises, and the patterns the frost makes. Finding the tiny little…

Get reconnected to yourself ; to your body, intuition & purpose

When we are struggling with big emotions, problems, or things in life aren’t going well or really resonating with you as a person, it is often our response to block or numb ourselves to the problem, instead of facing it. Personally, for me, I lost my way. I fell into a job in my 20’s that wasn’t ‘me’, a series of terrible relationships the last of which was terribly toxic yet I couldn’t see it (hindsight is a beautiful thing!)… and my coping mechanism for all of this was to mindlessly shop, and spend my nights partying. Ironically, when times are the worst we often neglect self-care practices (if they…

Staying grounded | How I work to stay grounded

If you don’t check in with yourself and how you’re feeling on a regular basis it’s easy to get lost in our busy lives and everything going on. Staying grounded is especially important if you are a sensitive person that picks up on others emotions and energies, and the environment around you. For myself, as a creative person and constant over thinker, it’s easy to get lost daydreaming, lost in my thoughts, instead of being present and in my body. Loosing the connection with your physical body means you start to lose touch with your gut instincts, your intuition, your digestive system and nervous system. You can become numb to…

    Don’t take everyone else’s advice

I know this might sound contradictory, as most of what I’m writing on here could be classed as ‘advice’. But just bear with me for a moment… When someone offers you advice for anything in life, as well meaning and helpful as they intend to be, the truth is we can only every offer advice from our own experiences and perspectives. Each of us views and experiences the world completely differently. We each have our own set of lenses, our own past experiences, different upbringings, different ways of thinking and feeling things. No one else in the world is you! Listen to your intuition So I guess what I’m actually…

    Lets talk about sugar…

Refined sugar is one of THE worst things you can consume for inflammation. I was, and still am, one of the worst for my sweet tooth. I think people fall into two categories when it comes to all that is sweets, chocolate and desserts. Most people I’ve met tend to be either savoury or sweet; you either have that sweet weakness you always crave, or a complete take it or leave it attitude to chocolate and would much rather snack on crisps or some similar savoury snack. ( there is also a third category though, those strange people who don’t even like chocolate at all!) Shock horror. That being said,…

    What is perfection?

What is perfect and when did we decide that it was something to strive for and only when we get there will we be truly happy?? Honestly, the more I learn and absorb and expand, the more I realise ‘perfect’ is a load of b.s!! No one is perfect. Ever. Life by definition is messy, and that’s just how it’s supposed to be. Without the messy less than perfect moments we wouldn’t be able to fully appreciate the times of happiness, joy and success. Just because an air brushed image of a person in a magazine looks like they are perfect in every way. It doesn’t mean that’s what the…

Be kind to yourself (its ok to rest!)

Being human is hard. We definitely aren’t perfect, any of us. And yet why do we give ourselves such a hard time if we don’t do, or act, like we think we should? I have, as we speak, taken a few days away from social media. Instagram in particular. Because I found myself being unnecessarily hard on my body, my ‘achievements’, and generally feeling pretty sh*t about myself. So much so that it’s inspired my last two posts (you can read the first here). I’ll admit they are more pep talks to myself. But I hope that you can find some use in reading them too.   It’s ok to…
