    The Spring Eqinox & Supermoon | 2019

Happy Spring Equinox to you! Today marks the vernal equinox, which occurs at exactly 21:58 GMT this evening. The day when day and night are almost equal in length. In the Northern hemisphere this marks the first day of Spring, and the journey back towards the sun. From now until midsummer the days will be longer and lighter, the temperature will (hopefully) get hotter, and the land will turn green as things begin to grow and flourish again. In the Southern Hemisphere it will of course be the opposite, as they move towards the darker winter months – another lovely example of the beautiful balance in nature. Today also marks…

    Living with the seasons

I have felt pretty pleased with myself the last couple of years on how I’ve changed my attitude towards winter and the darker months. I used to dread them, I’d go as far as to say ‘hate them with a passion’, but this left me wishing away huge chunks of time (and my life) pining for Spring, daylight and warmer days. Instead of waking up and dreading the dark I started to appreciate waking up to the stars, the moon, running in the dark and feeling like the only person in the world, getting to see those dramatic winter sunrises, and the patterns the frost makes. Finding the tiny little…

Get reconnected to yourself ; to your body, intuition & purpose

When we are struggling with big emotions, problems, or things in life aren’t going well or really resonating with you as a person, it is often our response to block or numb ourselves to the problem, instead of facing it. Personally, for me, I lost my way. I fell into a job in my 20’s that wasn’t ‘me’, a series of terrible relationships the last of which was terribly toxic yet I couldn’t see it (hindsight is a beautiful thing!)… and my coping mechanism for all of this was to mindlessly shop, and spend my nights partying. Ironically, when times are the worst we often neglect self-care practices (if they…

The Superpowers of green tea | Green teas many benefits

Anyone who has tried Green tea will tell you it’s an acquired taste, but one that you can grow to love… and I can attest to that personally! I can also tell you that Green teas many benefits are worth its slight bitter taste. There are many different brands of green tea, so if it is something you struggle to enjoy I would suggest maybe experimenting with different varieties to start until you find one that suits you. Try going for one that is described as ‘light’, as these tend to have a less strong green taste! I drink Green tea every day, at least two cups, as part of…

Herbs for fighting seasonal blues | SAD

As it’s nearing the winter solstice – the shortest day of the year (in the northern hemisphere at least), it’s just four days away as I write this, it seemed like an appropriate time to cover Seasonal Affective Disorder (or SAD). When the amount of sunlight we get is at an all time low it can have a huge impact on your life. These are all the herbs for fighting seasonal blues that you can use daily throughout the winter season. What are the symptoms of seasonal affective disorder? Unless you know you suffer from seasonal disorder it isn’t always easy to diagnose. A lack of sunlight (and vitamin D)…

How to quiet an anxious mind

Whether anxiety and depression are becoming a lot more common thanks to social media, comparison complex and people feeling like they need to do all the things, or it’s just that people are more open in talking about their problems.. they are two big and scary topics. Although I don’t have full blown anxiety attacks myself, during my time with my chronic illness I have definitely dealt with bouts of depression, and moments [*read days] of feeling anxious and like things aren’t in my control. It can be a scary and confusing thing. A state you often don’t realise you entered until you are in the think of it! Today…

Staying grounded | How I work to stay grounded

If you don’t check in with yourself and how you’re feeling on a regular basis it’s easy to get lost in our busy lives and everything going on. Staying grounded is especially important if you are a sensitive person that picks up on others emotions and energies, and the environment around you. For myself, as a creative person and constant over thinker, it’s easy to get lost daydreaming, lost in my thoughts, instead of being present and in my body. Loosing the connection with your physical body means you start to lose touch with your gut instincts, your intuition, your digestive system and nervous system. You can become numb to…

    Elderberry recipe & foraging

If the summer is the season of flowers, then autumn is definitely the season of berries. I shared a post on elderflower earlier in the year (you can find it here), and now all those flowers have turned to ripe, red berries. The perfect time for picking elderberry is from early to late September. Unfortunately the storms and strong winds seem to have blow a lot of the berries off this year, but there may still be time for you to get a good elderberry foraging in. How to pick Elderberries If you haven’t already worked out where your elder bushes are from picking your elderflower earlier in the year,…
